Snow Day!

We had a "huge winter storm" this weekend.  We got almost an inch of rain in San Diego and snow down to 1000 feet in the county.  This morning we piled in the car bright and early (wheels were rolling at 8:30 am) and headed up to the Laguna Mountains, which are about 40 minutes away and got over 20 inches of now.

We got off interstate 8 at Sunrise Highway and were turned away by the highway patrol, who were requiring chains on all cars.  We drove down Old Highway 80.  Our plan was to take route 79 into Julian, but chains were required there too.  So we continued to a lower elevation and ended up in Descanso, which is about 2500 feet above sea level.  We ended up in some sort of small picnic area that was part of the Cleveland National Forest. We played in the snow for about an hour:

The other family at the park let Sophia borrow their boogie board so she could "sled" down the hill.

Live oaks, snow, mountains
