February is time to plant bare root plants...
We're still gearing up for our big planting day(s), but I couldn't resist getting a few plants! Once the rain stops this weekend, I'll be putting in strawberries, onions, and asparagus.
I'm most excited about about the asparagus! Barbara Kingsolver talks about it in Animal, Vegetable, Miracle, her book where she and her family eat locally for a year. I'll have to let it grow for two years before I can start harvesting it, but growing it sounds so cool!
The strawberries should be ready by June and the onions will be ready in the early fall.

Well, That weekend I managed to get the asparagus and the strawberries planted. The sun came out and I thought it would just take a few minutes...
About halfway through, the skies opened up. Sophia and I got soaked! I decided to finish since we were already so wet and muddy. We took a little time to dance in the rain too!
After showering off the mud and putting on dry clothes, it felt good to have gotten the plants in. I hope I didn't rush too much and they will take root and start growing.
Until I get more info from my doctor, I'm done with yard work (and anything else slightly strenuous) until after the baby arrives. We may hire someone to do the big planting or just wait a bit. In the meantime, I'll keep watch on the little asparagus tendrils shooting up and hope the strawberries didn't get buried in mud! We have had great growing weather- over 75 degrees these past few days!
awesome! I want to grow asparagus too!
